Wellbutrin SR is Bupropion Hydrochloride which is actually a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water. It tastes bitter. It is a sustained release tablet that is sold in 100mg, 150mg and 200mg coated with film and printed in edible ink. Bupropion Hydrochloride is the active ingredient in Wellbutrin SR tablet. Inactive ingredients like magnesium stearate, polysorbate 80, hypromellose, carnauba wax, microcrystalline cellulose, cysteine hydrochloride and titanium dioxide are present in this tablet.
Recommendations
In general the dosage is started in minimum and raised if needed. For an adult 300 mg / day is the limit. This is split into two doses of 150 mg each for a day. If the patient can adjust to this dosage then the dosage can be increased to 300 mg / day. Make sure there is a minimum of 8 hours between two doses given in a day. If there is no improvement in the patient for more than several weeks of giving 300 mg / day, the dosage can be increased to 400 mg / day as two 200 mg dosages.
Precautions
Seizure is one of the risks with the intake of Wellbutrin SR. In some patients’ restlessness, agitation and insomnia are present. In such cases the dosage of Wellbutrin SR is reduced and a sedative that gives an intermediate effect can be given. This type of treatment might be necessary only during the first week of treatment with Wellbutrin SR. Since the tablet is SR (sustained release) it should not be crushed or chewed while taking it. Take it as a whole. For patients who suffer from severe hepatic cirrhosis, the dosage of Wellbutrin SR should not be more than 150 mg / day. In some cases mild doses are considered. Patients who suffer from renal diseases the dosage are also reduced and the frequencies of the dosages are also reduced. Consult your doctor for the appropriate dosages. During the initial treatment in patients with major depressive disorders, these antidepressants might also induced suicidal ideas in the patient. This occurs only during the early stages of the treatment. The patients should be watched for clinical worsening during the early stages carefully.
