Plavix is the brand name for the generic drug clopidogrel bisulfate. This drug is used in the prevention of blood clotting. This is useful in preventing blood clotting in patients who suffer with certain ailments of the heart and blood vessels. Plavix is available as film coated tablets in strengths of 75 mg and 300 mg. The 75 mg Plavix is available in bottles of 30, 90 and 500 tablets and in blisters of 100 tablets. The 300 mg Plavix is available in packs of 30 and 100 tablets.

For any heart related diseases the dosage of Plavix recommended is 75 mg per day. This drug can be initiated with a starting dose of 300 mg and then reduced to 75 mg from the next dose. It is necessary that you take the prescribed dosage by the doctor. If you find any adverse events after taking this medication it is better to contact your doctor immediately.
Precautions
It becomes easier to bleed with the use of Plavix as is prevent blood clotting. As a result a person having a minor injury too will find it difficult to stop bleeding. In some cases internal bleeding that is started will not stop. Hence it is necessary to contact your doctor immediately if you vomit blood or find blood in the stools. These might be symptoms of bleeding in the digestive tract. Avoid alcohol as it might increase the chances of bleeding in your digestive tract.
