Truvada contains two anti-viral ingredients emtricitabine (nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor) and tenofovir (nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor). Truvada is being used to prevent HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) cells from proliferating within the body. This is an anti-HIV drug in the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI or "nuke") family and is always given in combination with other anti-HIV drugs. It works by slowing the growth of the virus. You should keep in mind that this product is not a treatment for HIV infection, and also won’t stop the HIV transmission from one person to another by various means including blood contamination or sexual contact. Precautions
Truvada should be taken as per the doctor’s dosage. If you have missed a dosage in a day, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dosage, then skip this dosage. Accidently, if you have been overdosed, immediately call the medical emergency and start antidote medication. Other side effects of Truvada include slow or uneven heart rate. Nausea, stomach pain, dyspnea, trouble breathing, numb or muscle pain or weakness. The major side-effect with this drug is kidney failure.
