Sumycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, it inhibits the synthesis of proteins in microbial cell and has bacteriostatic action. It is active against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, spirochetes, leptospira, rickettsiae and some protozoa (trichomonas, amoeba, etc.).
Pharmacokinetics
Administered orally, Sumycin is well absorbed (up to 66% of the dose). It penetrates into all organs and tissues, as well as in bile, synovial, ascites and cerebrospinal fluid. Through it penetrates the intact blood-brain barrier poorly, but in inflammatory processes in the meninges into the spinal fluid flow increases considerably. The plasma protein binds equals 65%. The drug selectively accumulates in bones, teeth, liver, spleen, a considerable amount is accumulated in tumor tissues. It penetrates through the placenta and breast milk. Excreted unchanged form, mostly in the urine and faeces, partly with bile. Despite good absorbability in the digestive tract, the concentration in the intestine is sufficient for the treatment of intestinal infections. In case of violation of renal excretory function cumulative effect is possible.
Indications
The drug is prescribed to patients with bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy, subacute bacterial endocarditis, use Lumpy, gingivitis, stomatitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, sinusitis, purulent meningitis, cholecystitis, sore throat, scarlet fever, whooping cough, bacillary and amoebic dysentery, brucellosis, tularemia, typhus and recurrent fever, psittacosis, gonorrhea, syphilis, infectious diseases, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissues, as well as other infectious diseases caused by micro-organisms sensitive to the antibiotic. Tetracycline can also be used for the prevention of infectious complications in surgical patients.
Dosing and dosing regimen
The drug is prescribed for perioral use during the meal or immediately after it. The dose for adults is 0.2-0.25 g 3-4 times a day (with plenty of water). Children older than 8 years are prescribed a daily dose of 20-25 mg per 2.2 pounds.
The course of treatment equals 5-7 days on average. Once symptoms of the disease continue to take medication for 1-3 days. In case of itching, burning, redness of the skin the treatment is ceased.
Precautions and side effects
Tetracycline is not recommended to be taken with milk or other dairy products, as this violates the absorption of the antibiotic.
Tetracycline is usually well tolerated. Chance of dyspepsia, liver and kidney damage, pancreatitis, dizziness, photophobia, unsteadiness of gait, pigmentation of the skin, mucous membranes, tooth enamel in children, increased intracranial pressure, goiter, vitamin deficiencies, photosensitivity, allergic reactions.
In case of allergic reactions, drug overturned and conduct desensitizing therapy. For the prevention of candidiasis simultaneously with tetracycline or prescribe Nystatin levorin. During the treatment it is advisable to co-administration of vitamin B.
Contraindications
Do not use this tetracycline in case of hypersensitivity to it and related antibiotics, fungal diseases, when expressed violations of the liver and kidneys, pregnancy, lactation (for the period of treatment should abandon breastfeeding), children up to 8 years.
