Keflex has the bacteria fighting characteristics and this antibiotic is categorized under the drugs called as cephalosporins. Keflex has proved to be effective in killing the bacteria which causes bronchitis, skin and ear infections, tonsillitis, and infections of the urinary tracts. Apart from this Keflex is also used in the cure for many other infections.
Cephalexin Capsules or Keflex has to be administered orally and it is a partially synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. The capsule has the molecular weight of around 350 milligrams and the ingredients involved are D-a-Amino-a-phenylacetamido, 3-methyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid monohydrate. The Cephalexin is a classical example of zwitterions compound which have both acidic and basic molecules and it is also a member of cephalosporin antibiotics. The Cephalexin is also found in the crystalline monohydrate structure and it has an isoelectric point with respect to water of around 5. The monohydrate crystals are soluble in water at the room temperatures and they are bitter in taste. However, higher concentration of above 1 to 2 milligrams per milliliter does not get dissolved so easily. The structure of cephalosporins is different from the structure of the penicillin compounds due to the ring system which is bicyclic. The seventh amino position in Cephalexin is substituted with d - phenylglycyl group and the third position is accommodated by the un-substituted methyl group. Each capsule of Cephalexin comprises of 250mg to 500mg of the cephalexin monohydrate. In addition to that, it also contains D & C Yellow # 10, cellulose, C & D & F Blue # 1, C & D & F Yellow # 6, titanium dioxide, silicone, magnesium stearate, gelatin and some other ingredients which are inactive.
Recommendations
There are some certain strains of susceptible microorganisms which can be easily countered by the Keflex and therefore it is a very precise treatment for certain infections.
1. The infections caused by the S. pneumoniae and S. pyogenes are normally treated with Keflex. Usually penicillin is a treatment for the other streptococcal infections like the rheumatic fever and the prophylaxis. Keflex is very effective clearing the streptococci from nasopharynx. The cure of rheumatic fever with Keflex at this point of time cannot be confirmed due to the lack of evidence or data.
2. It is used to prevent the Otitis infection caused by the microorganisms like streptococci, staphylococci, S. pneumoniae, M. catarrhalis and H. influenzae.
3. There are certain skin infections caused by staphylococci and Keflex is very effective in stabilizing the condition and it it also cures the bone infections caused by P. mirabilis or staphylococci.
4. Infection caused in the urino-genital tracts like the acute prostatitis by the bacteria like K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis and E. coli can be eradicated with Keflex.
Precautions
Please be cautioned and strictly follow the instructions or prescription given to you by your doctor. You will also need to be careful about storing the capsules because it should be kept away from light and heat. Do not discontinue the medicine course if you desire to remove infections completely. Do not discontinue even if you are starting to feel better in a few days. If you skip any dose due to any reasons you can still take it as long as it is not very close to the next dosage timings.
