Brachytherapy is sometimes also called internal radiation therapy. High-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy involves placing a protected source of high energy radiation in through the applicators which are placed over the surface of the tumor or implanted within the tumor, or placed within a body cavity surrounded by the tumor. In our department we have the Gamma MedPlus iX HDR (High Dose Rate Brachytherapy) with Brachyvision treatment planning software for conformal radiation delivery and organ sparing treatment for breast, cervical, prostate, soft tissue sarcoma and other sites.
